Florida 1802 Map
This Florida Map Circa 1802 shows the Lake Wales Ridge located to the west of Poinciana.
If you travel from Poinciana west toward US27 you will cross the ridge. From the top you can view east to Poinciana and west towards Haines City and Lake Alfred.
Water flows from the ridge in two different directions. Water on the eastern side flows south to Lake Okeechobee (shown on this map as Lake Mayaco) and the Florida Everglades. Water on the western side flows to the Peace river and Gulf of Mexico.
Properties to the east side of the ridge are located in the South Florida Water Management District. Properties to the west are in the Southwest Florida Water Management District.
